“The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty to send rain on your land in season and to bless the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but borrow from none.” – Deuteronomy 28:12
“May the Lord God Bless you real good!” This is the refrain on an old Gospel song, often used as a lively benediction. Clearly the other side of the coin of living generously is to experience the generosity of God. Growing up, I remember my parents giving unselfishly of their time, resources, and love, not only their church, but to those in the neighborhood as well. Once my mother passed away, my father experienced God’s generosity in the form of a hot Sunday dinner from a neighbor. This went on for about four years, until he passed away. It was not so much the food that he looked forward to, but rather the thought that people cared so much. Only God could orchestrate such community spirit, based on generosity given and received.”
We do not give to receive, but God wants to bless us so that we can bless others. We are not asked to give out of our own steam, but out of the richness of God’s blessing in our own lives. We mirror the love that God first gave us as we serve.
Questions to Consider:
Where do you daily experience God’s abundant love in your life?
How would you like to share that blessing with others this week?
