Brooks Anderson, a fifth generation Californian from a family of artists and musicians, graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California State University in Northridge, studying at that time with established artists of the Los Angeles art scene. Brooks has exhibited nationally, from San Francisco to New York City, and his work is collected in private, corporate, and museum collections around the world. In 1996, Brooks lived for a year in the south of France, completing fifty luminous paintings of the region.

Says Brooks about his work:

“Simply put, my goal in painting is not to copy Nature, but to stand back, pause, and dive in, to reveal its depths, to feel the sacred and profound, to transcribe the essence of what I see spiritually; and to relish in the act of painting – responding to what is happening on the surface, as if this is the first time this vision has been bestowed and revealed. “

“Each painting, each day, each brushstroke pushes me further. The representational world has always summoned the artist to transcribe its compelling mysteries. In my work, the hallowed places, expanse, depth, and environmental fragility are in concert with Nature’s resilience. My landscape and seascape paintings move beyond the visual, inquiring and knocking at the door of the unseen. ” Theodore Wolff of the Christian Science Monitor wrote about Brooks’ work: “Anderson’s images are extraordinarily illusionistic, and are stamped with a unique painterly identity and presence. Only carefully conceived and lovingly executed paintings can transform the raw material of nature in such serene and subtly Romantic pictorial projections.”
